Iranian opposition calls for more peaceful gatherings Iranian opposition groups have called on people to join peaceful gatherings in the main squares of cities across the country on Wednesday June 15. Kaleme website reports that the Coordination Council of the Green Path of Hope has also invited people to visit the graves of the "martyrs" of the Green Movement on Thursday, June 16. The Coordination Council of the Green Path of Hope is a broad coalition established by Iranian opposition leaders Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, before they were put under house arrest and completely cut off from the outside world. The Council's announcement mentions Neda Agha-Soltan and Sohrab Araabi, the young protesters who were shot to death on the streets of Tehran in the mass protests that followed the June 2009 election, in its list of martyrs. The council also mentions Haleh Sahabi, the jailed Iranian activist who died on June 1, when her father's funeral was attacked, and Hoda Saber, the jailed journalist who died last Sunday following a hunger strike of nearly 10 days in protest of Sahabi's death. The Council had already called on protesters to join a silent march on Sunday to mark the second anniversary of the controversial 2009 election. The march led to sporadic clashes and a series of arrests.
