اعضای باشگاه مادرید، که متشکل از گروهی از رهبران سابق کشورهای جهان است، طی نامه ای به رهبری جمهوری اسلامی نسبت به "ناپدید شدن" میرحسین موسوی و مهدی کروبی ابراز نگرانی کرده و نسبت به خطر بی اعتباری نهادهایی که زیر نظر او هستند هشدار داده اند.
در این نامه آمده است که بیش از سه هفته از "ناپدید شدن اجباری" آقایان میرحسین موسوی و مهدی کروبی و همسرانشان می گذرد و "خانواده های آنان از وضعیتشان بی خبرند."
این نامه که به امضای هشت تن از مقام های پیشین کشورهایی نظیر فرانسه، یمن و هلند به نمایندگی از سوی اعضا رسیده می افزاید: "به نظر نمی رسد که هنوز هیچ مقام قضایی مسئولین حقوقی این ناپدید شدن و تهدیدات سنگینی که علیه ایشان ابراز شده است را بر عهده گرفته باشد."
باشگاه مادرید در سایت رسمیش "خود را بزرگترین محفل روسای جمهور و نخست وزیران دمکراتیک" خوانده است.
در این گروه ۷۹ رهبر سابق از ۵۶ کشور جهان عضویت دارند.

بیش از سه هفته پس از ناپدید شدن اجباری آقایان میر حسین موسوی و مهدی کروبی نخست وزیر و رئیس سابق مجلس نامزدهای برجسته انتخابات ریاست جمهوری ایران و همسرانشان , حانواده های آنان از وضعییتشان بی خبرند .
بنظر نمی رسد که هنوز هیچ مقام قضائی مسئولیت حقوقی این ناپدید شدن و تهایدات سنگینی که علیه ایشان ابراز شده است را بر عهده گرفته باشد . ما توجه شما را به خطرات مربوط به وهن و بی اعتباری که این گونه تجاوزات آشکار به مقررات حقوقی , برای نهاد هائی که شما مسئولیت عالیه بر آنها را بر عهده دارید موجب میشوند یاد آور میشویم .
و از شما میخواهیم که حقوق و حمایت های مشروع مقرر در قوانین و تعهدات بین المللی کشورتان در مورد ایشان تامین نموده و محترم بشمارید
Open Letter to Ayatollah Ali Khāmene’I
Madrid, March 16th, 2011 – The Club de Madrid, concerned about the abduction of Mr. Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mr. Mehdi Karoubi, has taken action and has sent an open letter to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Ayatollah Seyed Ali Hoseyni Khāmene’I, signed by the following Members of the Club de Madrid:
• Wim Kok, Prime Minister of the Netherlands (1994-2002) and President of the Club of Madrid
• César Gaviria, President of Colombia (1990-1994) and Vice- President of the Club of Madrid
• Abdul-Kareem Al Eryani, Prime Minister of Yemen (1980-1983 and 1998-2001)
• Sadiq Al Mahdi, Prime Minister of Sudan (1966-1967 and 1986-1989)
• Valdis Birkavs, Prime Minister of Latvia (1993-1994)
• Kjell Magne Bondevik, Prime Minister of Norway (1997-2000 and 2001-2005)
• Lionel Jospin, Prime Minister of France (1997-2002)
• Chandrika Kumaratunga, President of Sri Lanka (1994-2005)
• Cassam Uteem, President of Mauritius (1992-2002)
“More than three weeks after the abduction of Mr. Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mr. Mehdi Karoubi, former Prime Minister and Parliament Speaker of Iran and prominent candidates to the presidential elections, together with their respective wives, their families are without news of their situation.
As no Iranian authorities appear to assume legal responsibility for these disappearances and serious threats have been levelled against them, we wish to express our concern about their fate. We draw your attention to the fact that these flagrant violations of the rule of law may discredit the institutions towards which you have the ultimate responsibility.
We urge you to restore to these people and their families the rights and legitimate protection granted to them by the legal principles recognized in the Law and the international obligations of your country”.
