Bahraini authorities have arrested one of its nationals suspected of having links with an alleged spy cell busted in Kuwait and said to be working for Iran. The man's name appeared in Kuwait's investigation of the group's activities, the Interior Ministry said in a statement released late on Monday. "Specialized security authorities have arrested a Bahraini suspect after his name was mentioned in the investigation of the case of the spy cell," said General Mohammad Buhamud, the Ministry's undersecretary for legal affairs.
The suspect was referred to prosecution which has kept him in custody, the official said in the statement. "Harming the security of any Gulf country is an attack against the security of all countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council," he added, without disclosing further details on the suspect.
Kuwait said last week that several suspects were being questioned in connection with a busted spy cell, but it fell short of confirming press reports that they were spying for Iran's Revolutionary Guards. At least seven people, including members of Kuwait's army and police forces, were under arrest, according to the Kuwaiti daily Al-Qabas, which added that the country's security forces were hunting for several other suspects. The paper cited a senior security source as saying the men had confessed to monitoring and photographing Kuwaiti and U.S. military sites for the paramilitary Revolutionary Guards. Iran has categorically denied the charges.

Akabar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council, said that the imprisonment of "concerned critics" of the government will lead to people's awareness and stressed that "silence" about political issues is unacceptable. Kaleme website reports that in a meeting with reformist youth, Rafsanjani said that the imprisonment of prominent figures who have criticized the policies of the establishment leads to the "awareness" of the public and can therefore have a positive effect on the protest movement. He stressed that the arrests have made a significant number of people "more persistent" in their objectives and "we must not doubt that the imprisonments have a constructive effect."
"Do not lose heart!" the Chairman of the Assembly of Experts told his audience. "When you enter political activism, you should not think that the equations are simple and the matters will be resolved with a few demonstrations." He called on reformist youth to make every effort in spreading awareness amongst the strata of the society.
He spoke out against "indifference" toward political matters and emphasized: "Silence and indifference of the public is not acceptable." Yesterday Ayatollah Rafsanjani also told a meeting of Iranian governors that "today's government looks for ways to satisfy public opinion and the era of oppression and force is over."
Last July, at the Mass Friday Prayers in Tehran, Hashemi Rafsanjani spoke out against the government crackdown on election protesters and called for release of all political prisoners as well as compensation for all victims of government retaliation against peaceful protesters. Since that speech, Ayatollah Rafsanjani has become the target of conservative attacks and the Supreme Leader has also criticized him implicitly for his alignment with protesters.

به گزارش وب‌سایت کلمه، هاشمی در دیدار با گروهی از جوانان اصلاح‌طلب گفته که زندانی شدن چهره‌های منتقد، موجب «آگاهی» مردم می‌شود که این مسئله در مجموع «سازنده» است.
رئیس مجمع تشخیص مصلحت نظام افزوده بازداشت‌ها، عده قابل‌توجهی را در هدف «ثابت قدم‌تر» کرده و «شک نباید کرد که این زندان رفتن‌ها در مجموع سازنده است.»
هاشمی رفسنجانی خطاب به جوانان حاضر در این دیدار گفت: «جای دلسردی نیست، وقتی کسی وارد فعالیت سیاسی می‌شود، نباید فکر کند معادلات آن‌قدر ساده است که با چند راهپیمایی همه چیز حل می‌شود.»
وی در این دیدار همچنین خواست که «جوانان اصلاح‌طلب» در جهت آگاه کردن اقشار مختلف جامعه تلاش کرده و آگاهی‌های خود را مبنای تعقل و تحلیل خود قرار دهند.
هاشمی اظهار داشت: «کار برای مردم، زحمت و مرارت دارد و سختی‌های مسیر را باید تحمل کرد. مطمئن باشید کسانی که در زندان یک سیلی می‌زنند، به اندازه ۱۰ سیلی باید جوابگو باشند.»
رئیس مجمع تشخیص مصلحت نظام، «بی‌تفاوتی» جامعه نسبت به مسائل سیاسی را «عیب» بسیار بزرگی دانست و گفت: «سکوت و بی‌تفاوتی مردم قابل قبول نیست.»
هاشمی روز گذشته نیز در دیدار جمعی از استانداران پیشین ایران گفته بود: «حکومت‌ها در دنیای امروز به دنبال اقناع افکار عمومی هستند و دوران سرکوب و تحمیل پایان یافته است.»
وزارت کشور بحرین اعلام کرد، یک شهروند بحرینی در این شیخ‌نشین به ظن ارتباط با شبکه جاسوسی منتسب به ایران دستگیر شده است.
بر پایه بیانیه وزارت کشور بحرین در جریان بازجویی‌های مقام‌های کویتی از بازداشت‌شدگان شبکه جاسوسی منتسب به ایران، نام این شخص به میان آمده است.
محمد بو حمود، معاون وزیر کشور بحرین، در این بیانیه گفت: «مقام‌های ویژه امنیتی یک بحرینی مظنون را که نام وی در تحقیقات پرونده این شبکه جاسوسی به میان آمده، بازداشت کرده‌اند.»
در ادامه این بیانیه آمده است: «ضربه زدن به امنیت هریک از کشورهای خلیج فارس، ضربه به امنیت همه کشورهای شورای همکاری خلیج فارس است.»
کویت هفته گذشته رسما اعلام کرد که چندین نفر در پیوند با یک شبکه جاسوسی مرتبط با ایران در این کشور دستگیر شده‌اند.
شیخ جابر الصباح، وزیر کشور کویت، که در نشست مقام‌های امنیتی کشورهای حاشیه خلیج فارس در ریاض شرکت کرده بود، در حاشیه این نشست اظهار داشت که تحقیقات از بازداشت‌شدگان ادامه دارد.
روزنامه کویتی القبس برای نخستین بار در گزارشی نوشت، دست کم هفت نفر از اعضای یک شبکه جاسوسی وابسته به ایران که در پلیس و ارتش کویت فعالیت می‌کردند، بازداشت شده‌اند. دراین گزارش آمده است که این افراد، از پایگاه‌های کویتی و آمریکایی اطلاعات جمع‌آوری کرده و آنها را در اختیار سپاه پاسداران قرار می‌داده‌اند. وزارت خارجه ایران، این گزارش‌ها را رد کرده است.
