France expects a majority on the UN Security Council to vote for new sanctions against Iran, with only three of 15 members still reticent, Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said Thursday. “Three countries will have some reservations, but we’ll see. The text isn’t definitive, it will be discussed by the non-permanent members of the Security Council,” said Kouchner after meeting his Danish counterpart Lene Espersen.
If none of the five permanent members of the council impose a veto, and diplomats report they have approved the text, then a majority of the 15-strong committee is all that is needed for sanctions to come into effect. “I think that the text will be approved. I can’t be certain, nobody can be certain,” Kouchner told a small group of reporters.
Diplomats said the three council members with reservations were Brazil and Turkey, which on Monday co-signed a nuclear deal with Tehran, and Lebanon, whose government includes members of the pro-Iranian party Hezbollah.

A senior Revolutionary Guards Corps commander admitted that the ‘Iranian Cyber Army’ looks to the Revolutionary Guards for direction. The Iranian Cyber Army is a group of internet hackers that have been responsible for invading a series of internet websites.
Fars news agency reports that Ebrahim Jabbari, commander of the Ali Ebn-e Abi Taleb Guards in Qom, said on Thursday: "The Revolutionary Guards has been successful in establishing a cyber army and today the cyber army of the Revolutionary Guards is the second largest cyber army in the world." Earlier, Commander Javani, head of the Guards Political Bureau had made implicit remarks about ties between the "Iranian Cyber Army" and the Revolutionary Guards Corps of Iran.
According to Islamic Republic laws, hacking into websites is a "cyber crime." Ebrahim Jabbari claimed the objective of the "Iranian Cyber Army" is "to prevent the destruction of Iran's cultural and social system" and added that the "cyber army of the Revolutionary Guards is a force to reckon with in this arena." The websites of Radio Zamaneh, Amir Kabir Newsletter, Mowcamp, Jaras, Twitter and Baidu have all been targets of the Iranian Cyber Army hackers.
So far the Iranian Cyber Army had not been officially claimed by any group and its connection to Islamic Republic organizations had been merely speculative. In the past year anti-government protesters have used the internet to network, disseminate information and coordinate street protests.

Iranian judicial authorities have shown some “inclination” toward releasing detained Iranian filmmaker, Jafar Panahi, according to his defense attorney, Farideh Gheyrat. Ms. Gheyrat told Radio Zamaneh that his file has not been sent to the courts yet and his charges have not yet been clarified. However, she expressed optimism regarding his release as early as next week adding that the rest of his case will be processed after his release.
Jafar Panahi was arrested last December. Five days ago, he has gone on a hunger strike until his demands are met, which include "contact and visiting privileges with his family and assurances about their well-being". "the right to a lawyer after 77 days in prison", and "unconditional release until his trial and final sentencing."
According to Panahi's lawyer, the court has agreed to the first two demands and the third one is also in the process of meeting their approval.
Ms. Gheyrat added that the detained filmmaker is weakened by his ordeal but his morale remains high and appears to be strong and determined. He has reportedly met with his attorney and family twice and contrary to their advice still refuses to break his hunger strike.
