I’ll never forget the social worker calling me, almost incoherent. “I just heard the news … a woman, found murdered by her husband … in Tel Aviv … I’m terrified … I think it’s the Cohen’s mother…” It was. Ariella and her three siblings are left all alone – no mother, no father. Keren HaYeled is their home. Unfortunately, this vignette, extreme as it is, is but one story. Multiply it by three hundred! Children of all ages. Take for instance, Oded. His father just passed away a few months ago, due to a drug overdose. Oded is a genius, age 15, but weighing over 300 pounds. Or Tamar. Her father vanished when she was only four. Her mother is not mature enough to raise her. And so much more. This year we have accepted 35 more children, each hoping for a new lease on life, an end to their suffering and tribulations. They come with only ragged garments. We must supply them with clothing, bedding, every need a normal child has. Our facilities are full of children from troubled homes; our goal is to open their hearts and groom them to be future builders of Klal Yisroel. With your kind donation, we can make a real difference. And you’ll enhance the enjoyment of your own Yom Tov together with your family, knowing that you have ensured a Chag Sameach for these brave, underprivileged children. Perhaps you will hug your own a bit more tightly and appreciate much more the gift that is yours, as you weep for the Keren HaYeled children, deprived of this most basic pleasure. We thank you in advance, and wish you and yours a Happy Healthy New Year. Sincerely yours, Rabbi Dovid Godlewsky
